Upon its completion, Ai Stratis will be an energy autonomous island
The agreement for the project “Hybrid system for the production of electricity & heat from RES on the island of Agios Efstratios” was signed today between TERNA ENERGY and the Centre for Renewable Sources & Energy Saving (CRES).
On the occasion of the signing, Mr. Manolis Maragoudakis, CEO of TERNA ENERGY, stated: “It is with great pleasure that we signed today the agreement for rendering Agios Efstratios a “green island”, that is, turning it into a power and heat autonomous island, energy-wise. Collaborating with the national Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), the local municipality and the islands’ inhabitants, we aspire to deliver a project of great technical complexity on time and perfectly operational. It is a project that introduces new technologies in the country that couple producing green energy with storing and using it. The iconic island, CRES’ innovation and TERNA ENERGY’s solid experience join forces for a prolific result.”
The project refers to the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of:
The two subsystems will correlate and function as one. The aim is a penetration of 85% or more of the Renewable Energy Sources in the island’s electricity system, as well as deploying RES to meet community needs in heat and hot water to the largest extend.
The contractor is also to undertake the operation and maintenance of the project for twelve (12) years.
TERNA ENERGY is the largest clean energy production and storage company in Greece, and the largest Greek RES investor on an international level. With more than 1,800 MW in operation, under construction or ready for construction in Greece, the USA, Central and Eastern Europe, TERNA ENERGY is steadily advancing to reach the 3,000 MW target of RES installations by 2025.
